Motorcycle season is upon us…
This year instead of telling someone who rides a motorcycle how dangerous it is… Lets look twice before switching lanes, making turns, or pulling in and out of driveways and parking lots… Lets stay on our side of the road, especially around corners… Lets keep our eyes on the road and off our cell phones… Lets make sure we are just as safe as those around us, this truly is life or death!!

Pennsylvania Records Lowest Number of Traffic Deaths Ever!
Record keeping for Traffic Deaths started in 1928. The polls are in for 2013 with 1,208 Highway Traffic Deaths which is the lowest the record keeping began!!!
PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said that even “though Pennsylvania has made significant progress in reducing highway crashes and deaths, our efforts to ensure that all travelers reach their destinations safely will remain paramount.” and that every effort made cannot and will not reach their potential “if drivers refuse to do their part by observing traffic laws and always using common sense on our roads.”
Over the last 5 years PennDOT has invested $50 million for safety
improvements which includes low-cost safety measures such as centerline and edge-line rumble strips. PennDOT also invests about $20 million a year in state and federal funds for not only safety education but also enforcement efforts statewide.
By obeying traffic laws and driving safely we can keep this number down and save lives in the process!

This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week
Pennsylvania’s new transportation plan is in effect and as a result of the extra funding we are going to see several overdue highway and bridge improvements throughout this next year. We ask that you drive carefully and stay alert through the work zones that you will no doubt encounter this construction season.
